Although I agree that this particular branch is louder than other libraries, I think it’s due to the vaulted ceilings and how open the place is. The children’s section in most libraries is separate from the adults, but not here. Aside from that I absolutely love this library. I live in downtown Mishawaka and I still make the drive to Francis Branch. I’m a college student, but also a mother, so it’s hard to study at home with Dad, the 11 year old and 3 dogs. I feel right at home in the middle of the library between the cookbooks and the fiction. Sometimes I get lucky and a talented pianist decides to share their talent on the piano by the fireplace.
If you come here looking for peace and quiet, you will be disappointed. It is truly appalling how many parents let their children treat this place not as one of quiet learning, but as a playground. Annoyingly, the staff does not seem to care. The old building was a much better library, both in terms of the size of the collection, and quietness. Just to clarify: I am not some grouchy old man writing this. I am 28. I just happened to have been raised to be quiet in a library.
This is an absolutely wonderful branch. We frequently take our kids to this location and enjoy our time there. Such a great resource for our community!
Has lots of sitting spacewith tables couches to sit on. Lots of outlets to plug your devices in. And has a very nice sitting and eating area. One of the best small libraries I know.
A cozy feel. The people that work here are very helpful.
