My worst experience with the restaurant came after a string of great visits. I had decided to bring my staff to the restaurant for a thank you. I called the restaurant to set up a private party. The first person I spoke to was clueless and the second rude. Finally, they said because our party was relatively small that I should call the day of to ensure that a table would be ready, which I did. The person that I spoke to on the weekday said it wouldn't be a problem and that'd we'd be sat immediately. When we arrived, I was told a completely different story. We'd have to wait at least an hour, which made me look foolish in front of my staff and boss, as we had to scramble to make alternative plans. I had been visiting the restaurant once a week, but will no longer.
I would still recommend this restaurant, but with the caveat that your food might not be good, you might not be treated well, and management might botch your experience.
The food is hit or miss, both in terms of item and consistency. The grilled veggie app has been fantastic two of the three times I ordered it. The sourdough bread, though, is awful, lacking its characteristic tartness and having the texture of a wet sponge. The Reuben, however, is a bright spot. The pastrami is moist, if a bit greasy, and flavorful. In addition to meat, the Crooked Ewe does offer a fantastic vegan menu, which had been a motivation for me to bring vegan friends and family to the restaurant. If you want the vegan menu, though, you will have to ask for it, since they don't include it in the regular menu, which I think is a mistake.
I honestly don’t think you’ll find a better place to eat and drink. You don’t need an enormous selection to have something for everyone. The staff is exceedingly friendly, I had two delicious selections from the beer menu, and our dinners consisting of the ewe burger and the honey lemon chicken were unique, well crafted, and fairly priced. This is one of the best local places I’ve found in my travels.
I got their sirloin and my wife got a burger. My friends got a burger and a jambalaya plate. All of it was awesome! Service was good and they have a great signature selection of brews.
I initially enjoyed my experience here, but the unfriendliness of the staff and incompetence of management have almost ensured I never return.
We love this place! The food is unique and delicious. And the beer is incredible. They use the best and freshest ingredients available. We've been there a couple of times recently in large groups and have had great, friendly service too. Love the new dining room upstairs and the magnificent view of the St. Joe river.
Quiet little micro brewery and bar. Plenty of flavor filled spicy food. Vegan Menu is available. Both menus are difficult to follow. Staff are helpful interpreting the menu. Staff will help you have a great experience.
The Crooked Ewe doesn't accept reservations, which is to their detriment. Staff often seemed miffed when you show up and ask for a table. If you do get one on the second floor, then you will enjoy a great view of the river. Please note the restaurant gets very loud when busy.
The Ewe, of course, is a brewery, and their beer passes muster. I've had sours, IPAs, stouts, and everything in between, and everything was decent.
