It was a relaxing experience but I have had better. We only saw the hostess the night we got in, and that was after we had showed ourselves to our room. She has a second job (understandable) so we mostly saw her assistant. The previous B&B we use to stay at would have a complimentary tray of goodies as well as cookies, soda's, hot tea or coffee, and ice cream set up and available at all times and included in the price. Here, there was no such thing (though you did have the option of paying extra if you wanted a welcome tray in your room). As far as breakfasts are concerned, it was merely okay. Through the week she serves a continental style breakfast (I have seen more available in a continental breakfast at a typical hotel), and on the week ends she serves a full breakfasts. The fresh baked pastries were good (there was a fresh made coffee cake one morning and muffins the next), but the main dish was just a breakfast casserole. Not very gourmet in my opinion. Also, I am a tea drinker and with the web site advertising "sitting in these rooms..enjoying a spot of tea", and it being an Irish B&B I would have thought she would have had a better selection of teas. They are 95% herbal and just the bagged tea you buy at the local grocery store. However, she did go out and buy some more that apparently went with her coffee machine that I was able to enjoy the last day I was there (it was still only one flavor to choose from though). Also, the web site says that check out is at 11 but there was no one there (not even her assistant) to check us out. We wanted to pay in cash (since the web site said that was preferred) but without a receipt to prove the transaction and since she had our credit card number, we were afraid of accidentally being charged twice. I will say that the rooms and the house itself were gorgeous. I had the most fun just wandering around this historic mansion. All in all, we got some good and needed rest that weekend, but it was not our favorite B&B and we will likely not be returning.
Pleasant little inn. Rustic and classic Irish looks. Decent includes breakfast. Good value. Recommended for an inexpensive nice stay in South Bend
Wonderful / charming / very hospitable - feels like being with "old" friends.
A great place to lay my head. The owner is friendly and very helpful. I must place to stay
Holiday open house. Rooms are clean and the owners are gracious.
